The Wedding That Started It All

I still remember the day I photographed my very first paid wedding. It was for a friend Jess from work who knew I had been taking photographs for fun, as well as serving through photography at church. Although I had never photographed a wedding before, she believed in my abilities and asked if I would capture her special day of her and her husband Cameron

That opportunity became my first step into the wedding photography industry. She entrusted me with documenting one of the most important days of her life and generously paid me $500, giving me both valuable experience and confidence in my craft.

It was a beautiful and magical day. The ceremony was held at the magnificent St George's Cathedral in Perth, followed by wedding portraits in the stunning Queens Gardens. I still remember seeing the bride in her dress for the first time—she looked absolutely stunning. What stood out even more was the way the groom looked at her as she walked down the aisle. The love and admiration in his eyes was breathtaking to witness and remains one of the moments that has stayed with me over the years.

The celebrations continued with a reception at the elegant Duxton Hotel Perth. Throughout the day, they were surrounded by family and friends who loved them dearly. There was something incredibly special about watching so many people come together to celebrate their marriage and support them as they began this new chapter of their lives.

Looking back, I had no idea that this wedding would be the beginning of a journey that would lead to years of photographing weddings, serving couples, and building a career doing something I truly love. What started as a friend believing in me became the foundation of my professional photography journey.

Even now, after photographing many weddings, I still look back on that first one with gratitude. It reminds me where it all began: with a friend who took a chance on me, a couple deeply in love, and a camera in my hands.
